Abstract
The low-cost production and performance of 6061-aluminium alloy matrices re inforced with coated and non-coated particulate silicon carbide has been st udied. The effect of coating the particles with copper has proved beneficia l to interfacial bonding and resulted in larger failure strains. Difference s in the fracture characteristics of specimens containing coated and non-co ated particles were observed. There was confirmation of the importance of p article size on mechanical properties. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All r ights reserved.
