An expression of the selectivity value for the voltammetric determination o
f an ionic analyte in the presence of interfering component(s) at an electr
ode chemically modified with an ion-exchanger has been developed and applie
d to the analysis of a model metal-ion mixture. Using distribution coeffici
ent values, the predicted selectivity value was calculated and compared wit
h that obtained experimentally. The approach allows a choice of the ion-exc
hange resin and experimental conditions for a given analytical task. (C) 20
