Pj. Gow et Rw. Chapman, Simultaneous occurrence of focal nodular hyperplasia and primary sclerosing cholangitis in a young female, EUR J GASTR, 12(5), 2000, pp. 565-567
We report the case of a 22-year-old female with primary sclerosing cholangi
tis who was found, during hepatic imaging, to have a large liver mass. Imag
ing techniques and histological examination confirmed the mass to be focal
nodular hyperplasia. A review of the literature indicates that the simultan
eous occurrence of these two hepatic pathologies is unique. The differentia
l diagnosis of hepatic masses in primary sclerosing cholangitis is discusse
d. Focal nodular hyperplasia needs to be included in the differential diagn
osis of hepatic lesions in primary sclerosing cholangitis. (C) 2000 Lippinc
