A novel [60] fullerene-tetrathiafulvalene dyad (4) was prepared by Bingel r
e action of C-60 and 2,3-bis{[(methoxycarbonyl)-acetoxy]ethylthio} -6,7-bis
(hexadecylthio)tetrathiafulvalene (3) in the presence of iodine and diazabi
cyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene, and characterized by spectroscopy and electrochemi
cal study. It was found that the paramagnetic signals (g = 2.0027, line wid
th 0.1540 mT) were shown in the EPR spectrum of the derivative at room temp
erature without photoinduction, indicating efficient intramolecular electro
n transfer between both electroactive moieties. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science L
