C-60 biphenyl derivatives were synthesized, and their structures were chara
cterized by FT-LR,H-1 NMR and FD-MS. It was found that the products are mix
ture of C-60(biphenyl)(x) and C-60(biphenyl)(x)C-60 x = 3-7. The molecular
images of C-60(biphenyl)(x) and C-60(biphenyl)(x)C-60 were directly observe
d by scanning tunneling microscope. The Z-scan technique was used to measur
e the third-order optical nonlinearity of the C-60 derivatives; chi((3)) =
