Abstract
We observed a significant increase in the number subjects carrying the NAT1 *10 allele of the N-acetyl transferase 1 (NAT1) gene in controls with a MAS T-R score of greater than or equal to 4 and in subjects with drug and/or al cohol dependence (p=0.003), compared with controls with a MAST-R <4. These results suggest that alterations in the acetylation of one or more CNS comp ounds may be related to both mild and severe substance abuse.
