Abstract
The goal of DECIDoc is to certify information specialists within a European -wide framework. After the discussion of the arguments for certification of information specialists, the certification manual and the revision steps w hich were set up in Germany are presented. We go into detail in discussing the modifications of the competence levels, the competence areas and the co mpetence groups. For validating the modifications, a certification procedur e was compiled and checked on the basis of two test certifications. The per mission and application procedures, the composition of the certification co mmission, the oral test, the evaluation as well as the experience gained fr om the test certifications are discussed in detail.
