J. Castello et Jl. Carballo, Two new species of Astacilla from Straits of Gibraltar, with a key to Iberian and North African species (Crustacea, Isopoda, Arcturidae), OPHELIA, 52(1), 2000, pp. 45-56
Two new species of Astacilla Cordiner, 1793 are described from the Str-airs
of Gibraltar. They are compared with other species of the genus known from
that area. A. cingulata so. nov. is characterized by a dorsal pair of tube
rcles on the cephalon, which ale Followed by an uneven tubercle next to per
eonite 1, one small tubercle in each of the first three pereonites, and two
tubercles next to pereonite 4, separated by a waist near the end of this s
egment. A. paucisaetosa sp. nov. has a dorsal pair of tubercles and an unev
en tubercle on the cephalon, a small tubercle on each of the first three pe
reonites, and two tubercles on pereonite 1. with the last one situated at t
he end of the segment and steeply inclined backwards. In addition to the de
scription of the new species, a key to all Astacilla species found in the I
berian Peninsula and Northern Africa is given.
