Ms. Deveci et G. Deveci, Blastomatous tumor with teratoid features of nasal cavity: Report of a case and review of the literature, PATHOL INT, 50(1), 2000, pp. 71-75
A case of blastomatous tumor with teratoid features is presented. The polyp
oid mass was observed in the left nasal cavity of a 72-year-old man. Histol
ogically, the lesion was composed of neuroepithelial cells with blastomatou
s appearance, cystic squamous nests filled with keratin materials, many muc
ous glands, complex tubular and glandular structures with edematous fibrobl
astic stroma. Sinonasal neoplasms including teratoid components and immatur
e neuroepithelium are exceedingly rare. We suggest that the term 'immature
teratoma' is more suitable than blastoma or blastomatous tumor when there i
s no carcinomatous or sarcomatous component besides the immature neuroepith
elium and teratoid elements.
