Abstract
Temperature variation of lattice structure has been investigated for ferrom agnetic La(Sr0.8Ca0.2)(2)Mn2O7 and layered-type (A-type) antiferromagnetic NdSr2Mn2O7. We have found that distortion of the MnO6 octahedra decreases i n the spin-ordered phase for both the systems. We further estimated the rel ative stability of the e(g) orbitals by means of Madelung potential calcula tion, and discussed the orbital state in the spin-ordered phase.
