Abstract
An experimental investigation was made of the operational characterist ics of a 2-mu m (lambda = 1923 nm) microlaser with a new efficient act ive medium in the form of a crystal of gadolinium vanadate GdVO4:Tm. P umping with radiation from a Ti:sapphire laser generated output radiat ion of 180 mW power, which corresponded to an absolute efficiency of 3 6% and a differential efficiency of 55%. The differential efficiency o f the GdVO4:Tm laser pumped with a laser diode was 10%.
