The size reduction performance of a pneumatically driven single-vessel phar
maceutical processor is described. Two materials were considered, namely co
mmercially available granular lactose (CAGL) and high-speed mixer granulato
r lactose (HSMGL). In both cases there is an initial phase in which the par
ticle diameter is reduced rapidly. The rate at which the size reduction dec
reases is reduced with time. The final particle diameter was found to be de
pendent on the material being processed. In the case of CAGL, the minimum s
ize achieved was 150 mu m, while in the case of the HSMGL the final particl
e diameter was 100 mu m.
