Electron spin resonance (ESR) studies have been made of lithium metatitanat
e (Li2TiO3) ceramics irradiated by gamma-rays of Co-60 source at ambient an
d liquid nitrogen temperatures (LNT). The ESR spectra have been found stron
gly dependent on irradiation dose and temperature. The radiation defects in
duced by gamma-irradiation at LNT were found to disappear almost completely
by heating up to 225 K. In contrast to this, the radiation defects produce
d by irradiation at ambient temperature showed tolerance of elevated temper
atures recovering at about 600 K. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights
