Abstract
Two convenient routes for the synthesis of L-altrose and L-mannose from 1,2 :3,5-di-O-isopropylidene-beta-L-idofuranose in four and six steps via the s tereoselective hydroboration and hydrogenation of olefins as key steps are described here, respectively.
