Abstract
Marangoni instability in a binary liquid layer, due to thermal effects acco mpanying mass transfer through a liquid-gas surface, is studied. The linear stability analysis shows the appearance of stationary instabilities in the case of gas absorption, while oscillatory instabilities are most likely to occur for mass transfer out of the liquid.
