A new iterative finite element method for solving elastodynamics in infinit
e domains is presented in this paper. The infinite domain in first truncate
d by introducing an artificial boundary on which some boundary conditions m
ust be imposed. A finite computational domain in each iteration is subjecte
d with actual boundary conditions on real boundary and with fictive Dirichl
et or Neumann boundary conditions on the artificial bo boundary. The soluti
on of this internal problem is then projected on the DtN operator, which re
presents the external problem outside of the artificial boundary. So new Di
richlet and Neumann boundary conditions for the next iteration are obtained
. An important fact is that DtN operator is not introduced in the finite el
ement equation, so any finite elements can be used.
