This study discusses the heavy metal burden in wildlife of different age gr
oups. The concentration of lead and cadmium in liver and kidneys of roe dee
r, red deer and wild boar were examined. Samples were taken from animals li
ving close to the motorway (No. 24) near Gudow in che Naturepark Lauenburgi
sche Lakes (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany).
The concentration of lead and cadmium in liver and kidney in relation to th
e animals' ages and motor vehicle traffic, as well as the influence of the
introduction of unleaded petrol and the opening of the border to the former
German Democratic Republic are discussed.
