Abstract
On the basis of prior own research and data from various hunting associatio ns and breeding centers the history and actual condition of the population of the mouflon in Masuren are presented (Fig. 1). Reasons fbr the respectiv e successes and failures in the introduction and breeding of this species i n selected centers at Wojewodschaft Olsztyn are given. It was observed that population increase was mainly dependent on the protection of the mouflons against predators. A real problem in the raising of mouflons in Masuren ar e stray dogs which are not allowed to be eliminated legally. The rate of horn growth among the described rams is comparable to that of m ouflon in other regions of Europe.
