S. Gatzojannis et N. Grigoriadis, A polymorph height-growth model of Quercus frainetto stands in Arnea Forest (Greece), ALLG FORST, 171(4), 2000, pp. 67-74
To develop a site index system, stem analysis data were employed, portrayin
g 82 dominant and codominant trees growing on even aged and under conversio
n coppice stands of Quercus frainetto in the Arnea Forest, Greece. Two diff
erent models were considered for the development of site index curves: A KI
NG's height / age model using the parameter prediction method for fitting s
ite index curves and a model of ERIKSSON. The quality of fit and prediction
performance of the two models were evaluated by using a number of criteria
and procedures. The quality of fit analyses as well as the check on predic
tion ability showed that the ERIKSSON's model performs best in terms of the
overall appearance of the final site index curves at a wide range of ages.
Based on the above, it was decided to adopt ERIKSSON'S model for the devel
opment of a site index system of curves for Quercus conferta stands in Arne
a Forest. Breast-height age and mean height of dominant and codominant tree
s are the entry attributes in the Site Index System in order to have a Site
Index (height at base age A(0) = 40 years) of one tree or stand.
