Abstract
Filariasis is a parasitic infection that is associated with various clinica l complications including renal abnormalities, in particular hematuria and/ or proteinuria. Hematuria may arise following initial microfilaricidal trea tment with diethylcarbamazine, and in particular affects patients with high microfilarial concentrations. In this case, the reaction may be immunoalle rgic in nature. Based on a review of the literature and on their personal o bservation, the authors examine the pathogenic aspects of renal filarial di sease.
