Abstract
We quantise the classical anharmonic hamiltonian describing an ideal f luid with a free surface. A calculation is presented which yields the lifetime of a surface wave on the fluid at all temperatures. A compari son is made between our results, those of previous authors and the cur rent experimental situation.
