Abstract
Bleachability and paper properties were studied for ethanol pulp, alka li/ethanol pulp and alkali pulp prepared from wheat straw, bagasse and cotton stalks. Different bleaching methods were investigated by using ECF and TCF processes. The effect of blending with bleached softwood pulp and the effect of beating on paper properties were investigated. Depending on the pulping methods and the raw material, bleachability w as different. Alkali/ethanol pulps are easier to bleach and stronger t han both alkali and ethanol pulps. Blending with softwood pulp and/or beating enhanced the strength properties for all pulp furnishes.
