Rapid assessment of rehabilitation options for functional disability

Although functional disability is common in elderly patients, physicians of ten overlook it or focus on acute illness, perhaps in part because they are unsure how to efficiently address the problem. A simple, stepwise protocol can be used in either an office or hospital setting to rapidly assess func tional disabilities and identify potentially useful interventions.
