Abstract
The density of states in statistical approaches to nuclear multifragme ntation includes a contribution from permutations of fragment position s in the physical space (the volume V-F) occupied by the fragments. Fo r N pointlike noninteracting particles (perfect gas) this factor is si mply proportional to V-F(N). We propose a correction due to the finite size of fragments which is based on an evaluation of the two-body ove rlap probability. The correction exhibits an approximate exponential d ependence on the multiplicity N.
