Fa. Fahim et al., PHARMACOKINETIC AND TUMOR STUDIES OF ALOIN (A NATURAL ANTHRAQUINONE) ON MICE BEARING SOLID EHRLICH CARCINOMA, Journal of tumor marker oncology, 12(2), 1997, pp. 127-134
Acute lethal (LD100) and median lethal (LD50) values of aloin on i.m.
administration using mice as experimental animals were found to be 440
and 260 mg/kg b. w., respectively. Maximum tolerated dose (MTD) was c
alculated as 50 mg./kg. b. w. Treatment of solid Ehrlich carcinoma-bea
ring mice with the MTD of aloin every other day showed an increase of
230% in the life span of the tumoured animals, inhibition of tumour gr
owth rate (T/C%) of 25%, and tumour growth delay time (T-C) of 19 days
, compared to untreated tumoured controls. The drug efficacy for aloin
on solid tumour regression was 36%.
