MACROZOOBENTHOS OF THE GLACIAL LAKES IN THE LOW TATRAS (WEST CARPATHIANS) - AQUATIC INSECTS

The temporal macrozoobenthos fauna was investigated in four glacial la kes in the Low Tatras. Altogether 24 taxa of aquatic insects were reco rded. The chironomids were most numerous with 18 taxa while Trichopter a were represented with 3, Coleoptera with 2 and Plecoptera with 1 tax a. Comparing the presented results with investigations that have been carried out during 1983-1987, a smaller number taxa was recorded. In a ddition, some acid sensitive species were not found. It can be assumed that the investigated lakes have undergone acidification during the l ast few years.
