The structure and dynamics of communities of lepidopterous larvae were
studied oil three oak species (Quercus robur, Q. petraea, and Q. rubr
a) in four study areas in the north-western Dart of the Borska nizina
lowland (Slovakia) during the vegetation period in 1993-1994. Samples
of larvae were obtained using the beating method. A total of 97 lepido
pterous species belonging to 18 families were recorded. Among the most
abundant families were Geometridae, Noctuidae, Lymantriidae and Coleo
phoridae. The highest dominance was seen in Lymantria, dispar, Operoph
tera brumata and Coleophora lutipennella.
