Abstract
Condensation of 2-methyl-and 2-phenyl-4-arylidene-2-oxazolin-5-ones (azlact ones) 1 with o-aminobenzamide 2 in acetic acid results in two diverse heter ocyclic compounds, alpha-[2-methyl-4(3H)-quinazolinon-3-yl]cinnamic acid 3 and 3-arylidene-4-benzoyl-1,4-benzodiazepin-2,5-diones 5, respectively. Str uctures of these compounds have been established based on their spectral da ta and elemental analyses.
