The development of fish rearing techniques and of supplying systems has bro
ught about a constant increase in world fish production in recent years, es
pecially in the production of valuable species like seabream (Sparus aurata
). Improvement in the feeding of reared fish has resulted in fishes of high
nutritional quality. Nevertheless, these fishes have a lower commercial va
lue ii compared with wild ones. In the present paper some characteristics o
f reared and wild sea-bream are compared, with special regard to the lipidi
c fraction (fatty acid composition, Atherogenic index and Thrombogenic Inde
x), as it is the most important component from the nutritional and commerci
al point of view.
