Abstract
Crosslinked poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone), preirradiated in air with gamma rays, was grafted with ethyl acrylate in dioxane and water. A detailed study of grafting was made under various reaction conditions. The graft copolymer wa s treated with potassium hydroxamate in ethanol. The resulting polymer cont ained pendant hydroxamic acid groups (-CO-NHOH) and was studied for the for mation of complexes with Fe(III), Cu(II), and Ni(II). The effect of pH on t he metal ion uptake by the polymer was also studied. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
