Abstract
The averaged field approach is used for obtaining the band structure of a p hotonic crystal with conducting inclusions whose dimension is small compare d with the longest period of the rectangular lattice of the photonic crysta l. The band structure is obtained in an explicit and simple way. The method is verified numerically by comparing with a FDTD method.
