L. Reijnen et al., In situ mass spectrometric study of pyrite (FeS2) thin film deposition with metallorganic chemical vapor deposition, J ELCHEM SO, 147(5), 2000, pp. 1803-1806
Pyrite, FeS2, thin films have been prepared by metallorganic chemical vapor
deposition using tert-butyl disulfide (TBDS) and iron(III) acetylacetonate
[Fe(acac)(3)] as the precursors and H-2 as co-reactant. The reaction mecha
nism is studied with in situ mass spectrometry. The thermal decomposition o
f TBDS and Fe(acac)(3) has been investigated, as well as the synthesis of F
eS2. A complicated gas-phase reaction chain occurs in the deposition reacti
on. In the first 1-2 cm of the deposition zone, thick, rough films are form
ed, hut further downstream in the reactor a smooth FeS2 film is deposited.
This remarkable change in morphology is accounted for in the proposed react
ion mechanism. (C) 2000 The Electrochemical Society. S0013-4651(99)06-132-7
