Ib. Singh et G. Venkatachari, EFFECT OF NACL ADDITION ON THE VOLTAGE NOISE CHARACTERISTICS DURING OXIDATION OF IRON IN NANO3-NANO2 MELT, INDIAN JOURNAL OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY, 4(3), 1997, pp. 163-166
Effect of NaCl addition on the oxidation of iron in NaNO3-NaNO2 melt a
t 250 degrees C has been studied by electrochemical voltage noise anal
ysis and harmonic current measurements. The voltage fluctuations, elec
trochemical noise power and oxidation rate were tend to decrease with
immersion time id the NaNO3-NaNO2 melt due to the growth of compact ox
ide film. This trend was maintained even after the addition of 2% NaCl
. However, a rapid increase of voltage fluctuations, noise power and o
xidation rate were observed after the addition of 3% NaCl due to break
down of the compactness of oxide film. The compact nature of oxide fil
m and their breakdown has also been confirmed by recording power spect
ral density plots in particular melt system.
