Abstract
A synthesis of densely substituted indane skeleton present in primnatr iene sesquiterpenes has been accomplished in a short sequence in which a regioselective Haller-Bauer cleavage of endo-tricyclo[5.2.1.0(2,6)] dec-8-en-3,10-dione 3 serves as the key step.
