Af. Barghouty, Robust estimates of hydrogen-impact ionization cross sections over a wide energy range - art. no. 052702, PHYS REV A, 6105(5), 2000, pp. 2702
We describe a simple and effective procedure to estimate hydrogen-impact io
nization cross sections over the energy range of tens of keV/nucleon to ten
s of MeV/nucleon. The procedure is valid in the first Born approximation us
ing known or estimated electron-impact cross sections. The original Bates-G
riffing relation between the two sets of cross sections is reformulated and
a correction factor due to multiple transitions is introduced. Sample calc
ulated ionization cross sections for helium and carbon collisions with hydr
ogen are presented.
