Abstract
The bismuth(III) halides BiX3 (X = Cl, Br) react readily with the tridentat e thioether MeSi(CH2SMe)(3) to give complexes of composition Bi-2{MeSi( CH2 SMe)(3)}(2)X-6, which have been characterized analytically, spectroscopical ly and, for the chloro derivative. by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In contrast to the mononuclear derivatives formed in the reactions of BiCl3 wi th crown thioethers, Bi-2{MeSi(CH2SMe)(3)}(2)Cl-6 exhibits in the solid sta te an extended chain structure with bridging unidentate/bidentate thioether ligands.
