The nature of the halogen is found to affect the yield of bis(triphenylstan
nyl)magnesium in the reaction of halotriphenylstannane with metallic magnes
ium in tetrahydrofuran. A probable scheme is proposed of the decomposition
of bis(triphenylstannyl)magnesium in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of met
allic magnesium and magnesium chloride. The formal kinetical and activation
parameters of the conversion of the organodimetallic compound were determi
ned. Metallic magnesium is shown to cleave the Sn-Sn bond in hexaphenyldist
annane.
