Gs. Korzunin et al., Quality monitoring for coarse-grained anisotropic cold-rolled transformer steel in the presence of textural inhomogeneity, RUSS J NOND, 35(11), 1999, pp. 847-852
A regularity has been observed in the quality monitoring of rolled electrot
echnical steel involving the use of magnetic texture meters; many local are
as in the steel have a distribution for the easy magnetization axes of the
individual grains that do not fit a normal distribution. These are parts of
the steel having a structural inhomogeneity probably due to technological
deviations during the hot rolling or subsequent heat treatment, and they ar
e detected from the increased widths of the recordings provided by the text
ure meters. They can be used by the operators of the rolling mills as signa
ls for eliminating these unsatisfactory parts of the metal from the total l
ength of the roll and thus assembling batches of steel uniform in quality.
