Abstract
We have built a prototype reflectometer for analysis of the loss distributi on along the length of an optical cable. We have developed the mathematical apparatus for treatment of the measurement results. The specifications of the analyzer are sufficient for real-time inspection of in-service lines. T he modular design of the instrument makes it possible to vary the cost of t he analyzer over a broad range.
