Abstract
Solidification cracking in austenitic stainless steel welds has been consid ered based on the solidification modes and the nickel and chromium equivale nts in welding processes where the cooling rates are high. Taking a Cr-eq/N i-eq (Welding Research Council) ratio of 1.6 as a criterion for the final w eld metal to avoid hot cracking, a methodology is proposed for the selectio n of filler or buffer material equivalents.
