Abstract
The effect of easily ionized element (EIE) matrices on analyte emission, fr om a parallel plate capacitively coupled plasma (PP-CCP), has been studied. NaCl and NaNO3 were used as typical matrices and the interference on Ag em ission was studied as a function of the amount of EIE and applied plasma fo rward power. Compared with the emission signal without the presence of matr ices, the presence of either NaCl or NaNO3 as a concomitant in the sample, causes an interference effect by both enhancing, and decreasing, the emissi on intensity depending on the amount of added EIE. The maximum signal inter ference, signal enhancement, was observed at 125 W plasma forward power. Th e degree of enhancement from an EIE decreases with increasing forward power switching to a signal depression at a forward power of 250 W. (C) 2000 Els evier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
