Abstract
Starting from protected alpha-hydroxy amides, cyanohydrins (alpha-hydroxy n itriles) are obtained through dehydration by cyanuric chloride/DMF in excel lent yield. The advantages of the procedure are the extremely mild reaction conditions that prevent racemization.
