This paper deals with the wear behaviour of modified and unmodified cast Al
-Fe-V-Si alloys studied through pin-on-disc wear test under three loads, na
mely 29.4, 49.0 and 68.6 N. Whilst all the alloys showed excellent wear res
istance compared to the conventional eutectic Al-Si alloy, modification wit
h Mg imparts further enhanced resistance to wear and reduced coefficient of
friction. It was observed that during dry sliding wear extensive plastic d
eformation, work hardening and oxidation of alpha-Al matrix occurred. It ha
