In the Operationalized Psychodynamic Diagnostic (OPD) relevant psychodynami
c constructs can be assessed on 5 axes. Axis I is related to the illness ex
perience and treatment requirements of the patient. It recordes severity of
symptoms, coping with the illness, treatment motivation, and resources of
the patient. For additional analysis of this axis, the data of 449 patients
from psychosomatic outpatient interviews were assessed. The results show t
hat the given categories were well used. There was no correlation with age,
a gender difference was mainly related to the different gender distributio
ns in the diagnostic groups. Between the diagnostic groups there were signi
ficant differences, which showed that the OPD-items are a good supplement t
o the diagnostic with ICD-10. The OPD-items correlated moderately with the
scales of the questionnaire on psychotherapy motivation. In conlusion, the
reported results can be interpreted as an indicator for context validity an
d practicability.
