A short comprehensive description of the theoretical background and of the
dimensions of the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) is given. - The
scores for the internal consistency in a German validation sample of 509 h
ealthy volunteers as well as for the stability in a sample of 75 psychiatri
c inpatients during the course of treatment for the dimensions and subscale
s are presented. As a first step towards validation in German samples, corr
elations with factors of the EMBU questionnaire, a method for assessing per
ceived parental rearing, are reported. Internal consistency for the dimensi
ons "Persistence" and "Reward Dependence" do not yet meet the expectations.
However, internationally the questionnaire is still under development.
