Abstract
A novel heptacyclic C-37 alkane presenting a regular polyprenoid structure has been isolated from a biodegraded bituminous rock and identified by NMR; this hydrocarbon is the most highly cyclized polyprenoid alkane ever compl etely identified; the absence of specific methyl groups give clues to unpre cedented biological precursor lipids resulting from the extensive cyclizati on of regular octaprenoids.
