Abstract
Solutions of [Fe2S2(NO)(4)](2-) or [Fe4S3(NO)(7)](-) undergo facile aggrega tion to new clusters [Fe5S4(NO)(8)](-) and [Fe7S6(NO)(10)](-), but do not f orm the known species [Fe4S4-(NO)(4)](z) and [Fe6S6(NO)(6)](2-); reactiviti es and reactions in solution and gas phases were monitored by electrospray Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry, and the probab le structures of [Fe5S4(NO)(8)](-) and [Fe7S6(NO)(10)](-) were determined b y density functional calculations.
