Abstract
A range of 1,4-distyrylbenzene derivatives were synthesized and characteriz ed by single-crystal stal X-ray diffraction to investigate the effects of s ubstitution on the resulting crystal lattices. Molecules in this report inc lude 1,4-bis(2,2-diphenylethenyl)benzene (1), 1,4-bis(1-cyano-2,2-diphenyle thenyl)benzene (2), 1,4-bis(1-cyano-2-phenylethenyl)benzene (3) 1,4-bis-(2, 5-dimethoxystyryl)benzene (4), 1,4-bis(3,5-dimethoxystyryl)benzene (5), 2,5 -difluoro-1-(pentafluorostyryl)-4-(4-tert-butylstyryl)benzene (6), and 1,4- bis(4-nitrostyrl)benzene.2DMF (7). The lattice of each is described and con trasted in Light of distyrylbenzene derivatives previously reported. The re sults of thermal analysis by differential scanning calorimetry are included to further examine the effect of substitution on crystal properties.
