Abstract
In the past two decades, remarkable advances have occurred in the treatment of cutaneous fungal diseases. New generations of antifungal drugs have alt ered the therapeutic approaches to both systemic and superficial mycoses of companion animals. To understand these advances and their impact in veteri nary dermatology, traditional therapies and their clinical applications are reviewed. The pharmacokinetics, methods of action, principal adverse effec ts, and dermatologic uses of polyenes, iodides, and griseofulvin are summar ized.
