Abstract
The goal of risk adjustment is to account for pre-existing differences in p atient factors that could affect the outcomes of analyses being conducted. Correcting for these differences must be done so that accurate conclusions can be made regarding the effectiveness of a therapy or the quality of care being evaluated, This column describes some of the approaches that may be used in outcomes assessments to control for differences in patient risk fac tors.
